Marketing Research Association Says US House Vote Threatens to Undermine Census and ACS

June 3, 2014 - Less than a minute read

In a recent post on its website, the Marketing Research Association noted that the House of Representatives tried to neuter the American Community Survey (ACS) again. On May 29, the House passed an amendment to an appropriations bill funding the Census Bureau to make response to the ACS voluntary instead of mandatory.

The MRA notes that making the ACS voluntary would dramatically reduce both the response rate and usefulness of the survey, which opinion and marketing professionals rely upon. Minnesota has many marketing and research firms, and we agree and hope that legislators act on behalf of businesses and local governments in keeping the ACS and Census strong.
