Planning is well under way for the 2020 Census, but the Census Bureau faces tough challenges in administering the massive effort:
With the government facing an increasing number of cyberattacks, the 4,300-person Census Bureau is now facing an immense challenge for 2020. The technology available is better, faster and cheaper—but the bureau has struggled to knit together the government’s hodgepodge of information systems while securing them. With less than two years until the agency is scheduled to begin full testing of the system, it is running short on time.
Finding solutions to these problems will require sufficient support from Congress as planning continues.
